Profile

Herlambang Bayu Aji is a graduate of UNS University, Indonesia, Faculty of Art and Culture. He is the creator of “Wayang Rajakaya” a new kind of puppet show where animals mirror human behaviour to convey a message.
From 2003 to 2007 he participated in various exhibitions both in Indonesia (Surakarta and Jakarta) and overseas (Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Australia).

Performance: Sapi Nyusu Gobloke
Synopsis

Sapi Nyusu Gobloke, a fable, is about a cow that is well looked after, provided with food and drink and protected by an electric fence. One day a lion wants to attack the cow but, owing to the fence, she mocks his fruitless efforts. When an old rhino comes to ask for a little donation of food, he gets insulted. This unsocial behaviour worries the owner, Mbah Darmo. Soon thereafter a natural disaster destroys the farm, killing most of the animals but the cow. So the cow has no alternative but to look for food herself and undergoes a learning process: You can only survive if you help one another. After some time she arrives on a dream meadow, watched by a dog, Yu Segawon. The dog tells her that her independence had been infringed by man and advises her to explore her own potential without being dependent on others. Being free and independent, all the animals can live on the dream meadow in peace and happiness.
